A fun tour for adults and children alike is visiting St. Elmo, Colorado’s most famous Ghost Town. We follow the old narrow gauge railroad grade, a world famous engineering marvel! Built to haul high grade gold and silver ore packed over the continental divide by mule and donkey from the mines in the rich but remote Tin Cup mining district.
A visit to the general store in Saint Elmo will take you down memory lane as you view relics from the past that are testimonials to the old timer’s pioneering spirit and amazing accomplishments. Feeding the chipmunks is always a treat for everyone.
We continue our adventure on down the trail, you will explore the Mary Murphy Mine, learn how the gold rush prospectors traced the many different ores and minerals. See where they staked their claims and struck it rich. See an authentic aerial tramway that hauled ore down the mountainside to Colorado’s most important milling operation of the 1880’s.
